Digital Product Passports for cosmetics and personal care

Cosmetics consumers read labels more than any other category. The platform's passport sections turn what's on the back of pack into a richer, searchable, multilingual-ready product page addressable by the same 2D code.

How brands in cosmetics & personal care use the platform

Each row maps to a real workflow in the dashboard.

Ingredient transparency

Full ingredient breakdowns with allergen and substance-of-concern flags. Goes beyond the legally required INCI list.

Sustainability story

Recycled content, recyclable packaging, refill scheme indicators, certifications. The story shoppers actually read after they scan.

Batch and best-before

Per-lot best-before and PAO (period after opening) tied to the GTIN. Useful when shoppers ask, useful when retailers audit.

ESPR readiness

EU ESPR's first delegated acts include cosmetics-adjacent categories. The platform's passport sections map to ESPR data attribute groups already.

What the platform brings

All listed below are real features in the dashboard.

Why cosmetics consumers read passport pages more than any other category

Cosmetics shoppers compare ingredient lists, allergen flags, sustainability claims and brand provenance more closely than shoppers in almost any other CPG category. The platform's passport sections turn what's on the back of pack into a richer, searchable, mobile-first product page addressable by the same 2D code on the front. A real INCI ingredient breakdown, fragrance allergen disclosures, period-after-opening (PAO) per batch, certifications like Cruelty Free International, Vegan Society, COSMOS Organic and EWG Verified, plus the brand's actual story behind the formula.

EU ESPR and the cosmetics Digital Product Passport runway

EU ESPR delegated acts roll out per category from 2025 to 2030. Cosmetics-adjacent categories (detergents, paints) are in early drafts. Cosmetics specifically is on the working list because of cosmetic packaging waste, microplastics in formulations, and concerns around substances of concern. Brands that build a passport now under the platform's structured sections will glide once a cosmetics-specific delegated act lands. The data shape (identity, materials, sustainability, supply chain) maps onto the ESPR groups already.

How the platform handles cosmetics-specific quirks

PAO (period-after-opening) is a cosmetics-only field that consumers and regulators care about. The platform stores it per batch, so a shopper scanning a real pack sees the right PAO for their lot, not a generic value. Allergen flags surface on the public passport, important for EU Cosmetics Regulation transparency expectations. Certifications appear as proper attribute pills, not buried in fine print. Refill scheme indicators and recyclable-pack flags are first-class fields, useful for the increasingly eco-conscious shopper.

Quick answers

Does it handle multilingual product pages?
Single language today. Multi-language passports are on the roadmap but not in the current platform.
Can I show batch-specific best-before?
Yes, with the Batch & Origin module on the Brand or Growth plan. Each lot carries its own best-before date that resolves through the Digital Link URL.
What about EU CPNP?
CPNP is a separate notification system that the platform doesn't replace. Notify products there as you do today; use this platform for the consumer-facing passport.
