What does the validator check?
Three things: that the input is digits only, that the length is 8, 12, 13 or 14 (the four valid GTIN lengths), and that the mod-10 check digit at the end is correct for the rest of the number.
What if my GTIN fails?
Most failures are typos. The validator shows you what the check digit should have been so you can spot the error. If the length is wrong, you might be missing a leading zero or have an extra digit.
Where do I get a real GTIN?
GS1 allocates them through national member organizations. Apply through your local GS1. We don't allocate, we just validate.
